JOB SUMMARY

Administers anesthesia or sedation to patients undergoing a variety of surgical and non-surgical procedures in collaboration with the anesthesiologist and surgeon. Develops and conducts pre-anesthetic plan for the patient as well as write orders before, after, and during procedures appropriately. Works with and collaborates with providers caring for the patient. Communicates with patients, family members and others on the health care team. Evaluates and orders diagnostic tests as needed. Ability to evaluate laboratory results and tests. Manages patient's fluids, blood, and electrolyte therapy. Monitors patients, including hemodynamic monitoring, using current techniques to adjust appropriately with the anesthesia plan. Ability to work with growth and development needs of all client populations. Fosters the development of colleagues and students. Provides orientation and training to staff. Collaborate and provides feedback in measuring employee performance. Demonstrates advanced technical competencies, positive interpersonal relationships, effective communication, and critical thinking skills which are utilized in educating and assisting management in meeting the needs of the surgery department. May also participate with in-service as requested. Participation in staff meetings, and committees with a positive and professional image. Takes on additional special projects as assigned.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyzes policy and standards documentation and ensures organizational compliance. Assess patients' medical histories to predict anesthesia response. Delivers written and oral communication, responds to questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Evaluate patients' post-surgical or post-anesthesia responses, taking appropriate corrective actions or requesting consultation if complications occur. Follows all anesthesia protocols (e.g. informed consent, allergen verification, etc.). Informs patients of their preparatory responsibilities before undergoing anesthesia. Instruct nurses, residents, interns, students or other staff on topics such as anesthetic techniques, pain management and emergency responses. Monitors patients' anesthesia depth and vital signs. Performing age related patient assessments and nursing interventions. Prepares intravenous drugs and intravenous therapy administration equipment. Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients. Select and prescribe post-anesthesia medications or treatments to patients. Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate.

Day shifts with call obligation during evening and weekends

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires current unencumbered licensure to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) from the State Board of Nursing in the state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position. CRNA certification required and maintained through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Bachelor of Science degree required from an approved and accredited educational program in specific area of advanced practice. Masters degree, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) preferred. Minimum two years CRNA experience preferred.
