Falls Area Ambulance (TRFAA) began operating as an Advanced Life Support
ambulance service when purchased by F-M Ambulance Service on May 15, 2008.
TRFAA operates a fleet of three ambulances, an ALS emergency response vehicle (ERV) and a disaster
response trailer covering a population base of about 12,000. The primary service
area (PSA) consists of 1,200 square miles covering all of Pennington County,
and portions of Marshall and Beltrami Counties in Northwest Minnesota.
service is staffed with two crews for 24 hours per day, with
the ability to staff a third truck when needed. We utilize
both ALS and BLS crew configurations. Our annual run volume is
approximately 1,400 calls, consisting of 911 emergencies and inter-facility
transfers to tertiary care facilities and regional trauma centers primarily
in Fargo and Grand Forks.
Paramedics demonstrate competency in trauma and medical situations and possess the knowledge and the necessary skills to provide lifesaving interventions in a pre-hospital setting. Administer emergency care and treatment and determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishes priority for required emergency care.
Paramedics provide advanced medical care to patients. Complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics may need to assist and give direction to additional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Responders at the scene and/or during transport.
Physical activities include but not limited to will require considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body; such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. Attend training classes to maintain national certification, state licensure, and keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge. Depending on location of position, work hours will vary depending on patient needs. This may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Treats traumatic injuries using established methods and treatments. Contributes to the establishment of good coaching practices. Manages multiple patients and directly responds to all questions. Assists in documentation of medical histories, symptoms, and vital signs for assigned patients. Monitors complex or unforeseen dependencies and responds accordingly. Personally demonstrates a high level of listening skills whenever appropriate. Masters new ideas with minimal oversight. Interprets vital signs and test results in order to make a diagnosis and craft a treatment plan. Administers appropriate first aid and follows emergency procedures. Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate. Communicates effectively with diverse audiences, using appropriate media and language.
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates Degree in Paramedic Technology or Paramedicine preferred. Completion of an accredited Paramedic Training Program required for licensing.
Must have a thorough knowledge of paramedic principles, practices and techniques, knowledge of how various equipment such as a monitor or defibrillator work and how to troubleshoot problems that may arise.
Hold national registry status at a Paramedic level.
Depending on state requirements, individuals may need to have a state license. Additional licensures as required dependingupon state
Paramedic (PAR) Certification, National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Incident Command System(ICS)100, 200, 700, and 800 completed and continued education hour's as mandated by accreditation.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent, advanced version for paramedics, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS),
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred depending on location.
Additional training provided/workshops and staff meetings are to be attended as per policy.
Must possess a valid Driver's License and have a good driving record.
