Supervise and coordinate activities of staff responsible for credit balance resolution. Provide leadership and direction ensuring appropriate processes are utilized for credit balance resolution. Plan activities for the processing of error corrections, patient, and insurance refunds. Organize and maintain daily administrative operations and workflow of the department by prioritizing and assigning work. Implement and monitor quality controls, quality assurance, and productivity standards. Ensure applicable standards, systems, and procedures are understood and followed. Review staff productivity and performance and consistently look for opportunities to optimize staff performance, identifying trends and providing coaching or retraining as necessary. Manages performance by setting goals, clarifying job expectations, monitoring performance progress, providing feedback, developing skills and addressing performance issues utilizing corrective action when needed. Complete annual performance reviews for direct reports. Generate internal ad-hoc reports on quality, performance, and productivity and provide analysis as needed. Function as a resource for employees, outside vendors and in-house departments regarding credit team concerns and functions. Possess expert knowledge of insurance and government rules regarding payment, credit procedures, claims submittal and appeal processes. Remain current on HIPAA, JCAHO, OSHA, and other federal and state regulations regarding credit practices. Communicate regulatory changes as needed. Must be able to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment showing excellent decision-making and problem solving skills. Cultivate positive working relationships with all internal and external customers. Must understand and demonstrate leadership capability, handle conflict and negotiation. Self-directed with a high level of accountability and require minimal supervision. Will be expected to assist with interviewing, hiring, orienting, counseling, disciplining and if necessary termination of employees. Occasional travel required.
Associate's degree in healthcare or business related field required.
Minimum three years' previous experience in medical billing required. Experience in a managerial or supervisory role in an enrollment or billing environment preferred.
