Advance the knowledge of scientific research with the K-12 community and best practices in education with the scientific community. Develop, coordinate, implement and teach K-12, educator and associated programs and content, providing access for schools, educators and students to technology and expertise of Sanford Scientists and Sanford Research Programs and initiatives as part of the Sanford PROMISE K12 Science Exploration.

Attend regional and national science and education conferences to keep current on trends and best practices within education for science and health. Develop and maintain relationships with regional and national leaders in science and education. Provide ongoing collaborations with regional schools.

Maintain appropriate certification and continuing educational, professional development, training and exploring new lesson plans and teaching strategies.

As a professional educator, provide ongoing collaborations and communication with scientists to identify the approaches and science studied, and use direction and judgment to keep all content in the curriculum new, relevant and connected to Sanford Research.

The position requires invention, imagination and unique interpretation of Sanford's science, as well as extensive knowledge of research-based best practices in education to translate the science at Sanford for a K-12, education and community audience.

Collaborate with the Sanford Research Education team to ensure all actions align with education strategy and budget, provide foresight and recommendations to strategy, budget, marketing, grant/fellowship application preparation and/or execution.

Delegate responsibilities to research assistants and interns. Provide a working environment that promotes job satisfaction and establishes a high-level of quality programming for the community.

Must demonstrate strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Delivers written and oral communication, responds to questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Uses multiple presentation tools and techniques, adapting/fitting them to audience and topic. Uses various techniques to ensure message received is message intended. Delivers formal and informal stand-up presentations or demos to audiences of all kinds. Simplifies complex ideas into easily understood concepts. Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work. Communicates effectively with diverse audiences, using appropriate media and language. Contributes to a continuous learning culture by helping others learn. Shifts focus among several efforts as required by changing priorities.


This position will work primarily with elementary aged students. Seeking someone interested in building a strong, engaging program for elementary-aged students to encourage learning in STEM and connect with what we are doing at Sanford Research. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, but able to collaborate with the other education program specialists to grow the program.


Master of Science with a degree or certification in education, Master of Science in Education, or a Master's degree in a related field.

Minimum two years of classroom experience required.

Applicable state teaching license and experience with presentations for educators preferred.
