Department Details

Core business hours are 8:00-4:30 Monday through Friday with flexibility to meet the 64 hours per pay period.

Ability to work with a very close family centered team in Radiation Oncology.

Job Summary

Excels in customer service and collection skills.

Coordinates activities with third party agencies, insurance companies and patients. Conducts follow-up on delinquent accounts and on Accounts Receivable Aging Analysis to ensure all accounts are being worked.

Handles calls from patients or responsible parties in regard to billing.

Handles incoming mail on all accounts within area of responsibility.

May include producing written correspondence in answer to these inquiries.

Self-directed with a high level of accountability.

Functions as a resource for employees, internal departments, and outside customers.

Will work denial work queue and work with physician to schedule peer to peer reviews with outside source.

Manage way finding for patients during the course of their treatment.

Maintains accurate information in the computer system to document where the account is within the collection process. Considerable initiative and judgment involved in estimating credit risks, devising plans for payment and collecting delinquent accounts. Use initiative, discretion and independent judgment in making decisions in varied situations as it relates to patient accounts. Be firm in a courteous and tactful manner in dealing with patients. Work with growth and development needs of unique client populations. Be able to utilize all office equipment including personal computer and application software, printer, FAX, copier, multi-line telephone system. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, including English usage, grammar, punctuation, and style. Ability to use appropriate reference materials. Ability to multi-task. Good working knowledge of collection laws as well as requirements of collection agencies mandated under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) standards. Be able to manually calculate patient portion based on insurance benefits, though the system will calculate the same information. Have good working knowledge of all collection policies set forth by the Accounts Receivable department.

Shift are Monday through Friday with flexibility. Does not include weekends.


High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Some trade course classes in accounting, business and communications would be very helpful in this position.

Must have previous patient billing and/or coding experience. Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
