Job Summary

The Senior Computational Medical Informatics Analyst at Sanford, implements computational methodologies using data collected within the electronic medical record and directly from patients using patient portal. Integrates and mine large biomedical data sets, connecting data from disparate sources to identify insights and patterns using traditional as well as predictive and prescriptive analytics. Builds and maintains data platforms including extract, transform and load of large clinical and genetic datasets. Supports decision support, computational description of human phenotypes, the integration of genomic data into the electronic medical record, and the integration of phenome, genome and other omics data sets.

Responsible for contributing to the planning, implementation and support of information systems for the Imagenetics Initiative and Medical Genetics; this includes electronic consenting and a process management system integrated with the electronic medical record, medical genetics laboratory and specialty clinic operations. The information systems developed and overseen by this role, will be used to gather, generate, and track patient data and to develop medically actionable hypotheses including differential diagnoses.

Establishes data analysis plans for each project, project tracking, outcome monitoring, and manuscript generation. Understand biomedical informatics data formats, tools, and analytical approaches. Maintains experience with state-of-the-art biomedical informatics tools, standards and data repositories.

Writes standard operating procedures (SOPs) for clinical test and writes out valid documentation. Performs programming for analysis of data. Familiarity with security and privacy requirements applicable for working with patient data in a medical environment and in the development of appropriate ethically and legally compliant policies is desirable. Facilitates the integration of advanced technology, e.g. electronic medical record (EMR), laboratory information management systems (LIMS), Cloud analytics platform, with the healthcare service delivery.

Supports the medical informatics group at Sanford and its clinical and research obligations. Designs, develops and maintains data and software systems to store, analyze, and report health related data. Evaluates and maintains the quality of data collected for analysis. Documents system implementation.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, data engineering, biostatistics or a related field with at least one-year experience required. Master of science in a related field preferred.

Experience with electronic medical record (EMR), clinical data (e.g. ICD-10, SNOMED) and exchange standards (e.g. HL7) and interfaces and movement of data out of and into EMRs is strongly preferred.

Experience programing in at least one of Python, Perl, R, and Java languages is highly desirable. Experience with cloud computing environments (e.g. AWS) is highly desirable.

Experience with the integration and management of multiple data sources, workflows and enabling integrated management of and reporting on those data and processes through graphical user interfaces is desirable.

Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in database vitalization and medical and/or research informatics experience.
