General Purpose: Solicits group business that enables the facility to meet and/or exceed group revenue goals in room, food and beverage and golf revenues.

Key Responsibilities of the Director of Sales and Marketing

  • Solicits new and existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals. Method of sales may include, but are not limited to: telephone solicitation, outside sales calls, sales presentations, property tours, customer meetings, travel to key markets, and written correspondence.

  • Prepares written correspondence to customers, internal booking reports, and ensures proper maintenance of sales files.

  • Prepares reports such as annual sales plan, monthly sales report, annual goals, sales and marketing budget, forecasts, etc.

  • Assists in developing rates, group ceilings, and deployment strategies through review of competitive data, demand analysis, and mix management.

  • Participates in and may conduct meetings such as: staff meetings, daily business review, preconvention and yield management.

  • Works with other departments within the facility to provide quality service to customers.

  • Attends trade shows, community events, and industry meetings.

  • Assists DOS with interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Manages department members that may include, but is not limited to: Group Sales Associate.

  • Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate. Develops ongoing training programs.

  • Monitors business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs and other expenses.

  • Regular and reliable attendance. Nights, weekends and holidays are part of this job.


  • Associate’s degree (AA); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Hotel Management, Marketing preferred).

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and speak English may be required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. the associates may be required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment the associates may use are in English).

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
