The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients. Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. Cares for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move along the continuum of care. Responsible for the planning and coordination of care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions. Functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.


Adheres to legal regulations and organizational policies when discussing patient health information Coordinates and manages care for patients, including those with complex needs. Delivers written and oral communications that engage audience participants, respond to their questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Effectively delegates and supervises based on ones state practice act and an understanding of the concepts of responsibility, authority, and accountability. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships within and outside of own area. Offers effective feedback to patient and family members regarding health. Performs age related patient assessments and nursing interventions. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients.


The RN schedules outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services and patients to be admitted. Assists in providing quick, easy, and appropriate access to all patient services at Sanford USD Medical Center. Communicates patient information pertaining to testing and procedures and information on accessing Sanford USD Medical Center to clinic staff. Ensures documentation of medical necessity according to the regulatory guidelines applicable to Medicare Local and National Coverage Decisions. Ensures ordering provider obtains preauthorization when required according to procedure scheduled and insurance carrier. Acts as a resource to the clinic staff regarding testing and procedures at Sanford USD Medical Center. Works with departments to resolve complex scheduling issues adapting services to patient needs. Provides patient teaching regarding testing and diagnostic procedures. Must possess a breadth of clinical expertise and have a broad background of clinical experience in addition to an understanding of the growth and developmental needs of all age groups. This position requires a strong commitment to outstanding service and clear customer focus. Strong skills in relationship building, communication, negotiation and problem solving are necessary. Critical thinking skills, creativity, flexibility and innovation in adapting services to customer needs are essential. Current hours of coverage are 0700-1900 Monday - Friday with variable hours on weekends and holidays. Hours of coverage may change to meet the needs of patients, physician offices, Sanford USD Medical Center departments.


Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelors Degree in nursing preferred.
