Job Summary

The Principal Product Manager provides principal level leadership to facilitate planning and directing the vision, strategy, design, delivery and adoption of technology solutions across the enterprise. Consult with leadership, directly contributing to the development of innovations and the successful execution of visible, strategic assignments with minimal precedent. Lead the technical components of the product suite throughout the product lifecycle; planning, execution, and support, partnering with other organizational entities as appropriate. In addition, serves as the senior, most expert resource while executing the technical design authority for the overall solution, ensuring the product suite is resilient, scalable and performant to support organizational growth objectives in existing, adjacent and new markets.

Maintains current market intelligence by researching and analyzing industry trends, competitive products, and emerging technologies. Develops a multi-year functional product roadmap to illustrate the vision, strategy, and plan for product innovation and enhancements. Develops a multi-year technical product roadmap to illustrate investment in the product platform to support volume and transactional growth. Develops and maintains business case analysis for continued investment into the products, including value propositions and ROI calculations. Collaborates with other stakeholders such as product marketing on the creation of positioning for the products.

Creates user stories for current and future products based on market opportunities. Manages the entire product line life cycle from sun setting legacy products to prototyping and testing new features/products and ideas. Drives buy-build-partner analysis, and when necessary, reviews potential partner relationships for the product. Understands the wins and losses of the market and drives changes to products in order to create improvement and to create success.

Takes ownership for research into new solutions or applications. Acts as subject matter expert for approach to accomplish a complex integrated solution that meets emerging and current business needs.

Requires the ability to build strong teams, work with cross-functional teams, delegate workloads, ensure project efficiency, and to lead by example. Requires excellent verbal and written communications skills, relationship management, client facing, negotiation, teambuilding, and problem-solving; experience in communicating with senior and executive levels of the organization, and an advanced understanding of technical solutions.

Expert with best practice agile scrum development and lean startup principles. Expert in using qualitative and quantitative data use to prioritize and drive decisions. Displays excellent analytical skills and the ability to absorb and process large amounts of data into actionable information.

Requires some domestic travel to customer sites.

Department Details

This position will provide key Product Management leadership and deliverables for our Care Delivery organization, which includes the Sanford Telehealth agenda and key clinical solutions across the enterprise.


Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum seven years’ experience in marketing, development, package integration, sales, or product management in unified communications.

Pragmatic Marketing Certified (PMC) III or higher preferred.

Proficient in productivity products such as Microsoft Office, Project, or Basecamp.

Comfortable using collaboration and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools such as Slack, JIRA, Aha, and Salesforce.

Current valid driver’s license, and must meet all medical guidelines for Sanford Health Category III drivers.
