The Pilaz lab studies the embryonic development of the cerebral cortex and the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental diseases such as autism, microcephaly and other forms of intellectual disabilities. Within the Pilaz Lab, the candidate would use mouse models to investigate how the regulation of transcription, RNA transport and local protein synthesis control key aspects of neuron and neural stem cell behaviors. Responsibilities may include omics analyses, in utero electroporation, histology, and time-lapse imaging of RNA metabolism in live tissue. The candidate is expected to design and develop research objectives for experimentation.

Assists in completion of grant applications and other regulatory documents. Writes technical summaries and co-authors articles for publication. Prepares and makes formal presentations of research results.
Typically works under broad direction of principal investigator. High level of knowledge in scientific research processes, procedures, and objectives. Possesses ability to implement experiments in the subject discipline with the ability to trouble shoot issues. Good knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline a big plus.
Teach principles and techniques of medical and laboratory procedures to junior individuals working in the lab. Possesses ability to run complex pieces of equipment requiring advanced specialized training. Possesses knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analysis. Significant experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
General level of knowledge of project management, decision-making, and analytical skills. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a research group or team. Sanford Research is a multi-site institution and occasional local travel between sites may be required.

The candidate for this positions should have excellent communication skills (both oral and written), be highly organized, and work well in a team. The candidate must be able to perform independent scientific research including the design and development of research objectives for experimentation; analyze and evaluate findings; assist in the completion of grant applications and regulatory documents; write technical summaries and co-author articles for publication; prepare and make formal presentations of research results; and be able to work under broad direction of principal investigator. It is preferred that the candidate have technical experience in molecular biology, cell culture, protein/RNA biochemistry, neuroscience, and/or histopathology.

Requires a doctorate degree in a clinical, health, or life science field.
