JOB SUMMARY

Day-to-day lead and acts as the point person in the absence of a supervisor. Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource. Demonstrates critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Performs other related duties as assigned.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques. Seeks opportunities to help others learn as teacher, coach, and mentor. Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences. Presents a professional image, especially when dealing with customers. Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Identifies available resources and support systems for troubleshooting. Displays strong personal commitment to organizational success, inspiring others to commit to shared goals. Collects medical specimens with strict adherence to established procedures and test requisitions. Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

This is a full-time position working 80 hours per pay period. Schedule will be Monday-Friday working between the hours of 6:45am-5:30pm.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required. Two years of laboratory related experience preferred. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
