Responsible for providing leadership of the day-to-day operations of the laboratory or laboratory department. Acts as a point of contact to technical staff and responds to questions and provides direction.
May collect and process lab specimens and performs clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. May collect and manage samples of blood and other fluids from patients as needed. Responsible to oversee the performance of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Ensures all medical laboratory safety standards and quality requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel. Serves as liaison between technical staff and laboratory leadership, as well as communicating issues and concerns to appropriate personnel. Must utilize critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Acts as point-person to technical staff and responds to questions and provides direction. May participate in the collection and preparation of required budget information.
Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Develops a culture in which all members work constructively to improve the performance of individuals and the team. Collects medical specimens with strict adherence to established procedures and test requisitions. Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing. Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Seeks opportunities to help others learn as teacher, coach, and mentor. Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences. Presents a professional image, especially when dealing with customers. Monitors the integrity of medical specimens according to testing purposes and requirements.
This is a full-time position working 80 hours every two weeks. Schedule will be 8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday with possible call on weekends.
Associates degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Two years of laboratory related experience required.
Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
