Entry level position for a candidate with limited or no laboratory research experience. Assists other research investigators by performing non-complex research and experimentation following established protocols.
This position is a community (Rapid City-based) Research Assistant position within the Deutsch Lab in Sanford Research for Project SYNCH (SYstems of Native Community Health), a research project that deals with understanding health disparities. The community-based Research Assistant role is critical to the success of community-based participatory research study. The RAs will be skilled in interpersonal communication, including community-specific language (if applicable), community organization and networking, and American Indian cultural competency. All community RAs will participate in the standard NIH research ethics training (CITI) training and will gain proficiency in the recruitment and collection of qualitative data using a systems science approach as mentored by the Principal Investigator of the Deutsch Lab. The Research Assistant role will be considered a community connector and "on-the-ground" representative for the work we are doing in Rapid City. Essential Job Functions: Recruit participants to research sessions; Represent and raise awareness of Project SYNCH; Help connect Project SYNCH to potential collaborating organizations and individuals; Engage in on-site research projects; Conduct all research activities in an ethical, culturally-competent and collaborative manner; Other duties as assigned. Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Interest in advancing issues of cultural competence and working with underserved communities; Excellent interpersonal communications skills, including community-specific Language; Excellent time management, with ability to work independently and adhere to a standard protocol; Capability to work with remote team members; Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail; At the direction of Manager, must be able to attend applicable community events, organizations, fairs, meetings in order to represent Project SYNCH to the population at-large in the Rapid City area. Preferred Skills: Professional or volunteer experience in Native American health and well-being, especially those relating to addiction, mental health, violence, healing, advocacy, culture and resilience; Should be a highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional attitude who is interested in action-oriented community research and development of programs for community health. Other Requirements: Valid Drivers License, access to a vehicle during work hours, and car insurance. Job Type: PRN (as needed)
Identifies key sources of information for basic research data.;Examines laboratory sample collection, handling and analyzation procedures.;Documents defective equipment and reports it to an appropriate supervisor.;Demonstrates the ability to work according to established norms and processes.;Speaks/writes using correct language, mechanics, and gestures.;Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment.;Participates in interpreting research results and reports.;Operates and calibrates equipment in a basic laboratory environment.;Identifies the key features and functions of laboratory equipment.;
Position will be based out of Rapid City, SD
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
