Sanford Health would love to help you achieve your career goals as a Medical Laboratory Technician. The MLT Sponsorship is financial assistance to support tuition and other expenses while you progress through your schools MLT program. Upon graduation, Sanford and the sponsored student will partner for a full time employment commitment at Sanford Health as a MLT in MN for two years. Current students are eligible to apply. This sponsorship can be used in conjunction with other financial aid. Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.

Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Demonstrates critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Department Details


• Must be a current employee of Sanford.

• Must be enrolled in a MLT program at MN West.

• Commit to working 2 years full-time as a MLT with Sanford Health after graduation.

• Must maintain a GPA that meets program requirements and show forward progression through the program of study. (Grades must be submitted on a semester basis.)

• Must sign a contract before payments are processed.

• Must commit to participating in Sanford Check-Ins (email, phone, or in person) during program of study.


Associates degree in Laboratory Science required.

Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
