Contribute to Sanford operations and processes while obtaining first hand experiences that align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The intern will work through the Office of Nursing Practice with a mentor who is leading a system wide project related to delirium, to which there are multiple aspects. A key responsibility of this project would be to assist with hospital stay/inpatient delirium data; data will include development of unit level delirium rates as well as patient level data. The second aspect of this project would be to assist with the Therapeutic Activities project geared at delirium prevention in which the intern would develop processes to spread the current pilot project to all inpatient units. The project includes multiple supplies and resources therefore standardization as well as cost analysis will be essential. The intern, depending on abilities, may complete some chart reviews to highlight current prevalence of delirium and assist with establishment of delirium metrics. Should time allow, there is a future project related to standardization of coding for delirium that could also be undertaken. The intern would attend all delirium related meetings, including but not limited to the monthly delirium interdisciplinary team meeting, the Enterprise Delirium Collaboration meetings, and meetings with the 6AB team related to the therapeutic activities project. I would also establish a weekly 30 min touch base with the intern to check in on progress of goals and establishment of priorities for the upcoming week. The intern would specifically be retrieving, analyzing, and organizing data. One of the key goals will be to assist with cost analysis of the Therapeutic Activities project and development of a process to order supplies, restock supplies, and manage supplies of this initiative. The project includes multiple supplies and resources and therefore, standardization as well as cost analysis and return on investment will be essential. Mentor will work closely with the intern to ensure a successful experience. Intern must have excellent skills/proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/products and specifically Excel to be able to develop reports, analyze data, and establish processes that can be implemented. Data management and cost analysis skills will be important. Major focus of study could be Accounting, Healthcare Accounting, Data Management, and Business. Must have strong organization skills and the ability to work independently. Project management interest and/or experience. Experience with performance improvement/quality, or a strong desire to learn and gain a strong understanding of PI. Interest in digital marketing, graphic design may be of benefit when designing the widespread application/adoption of the Therapeutic Activities project. The intern must commit to the hours scheduled during the 12 week internship.

Current enrollment or recent graduate of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge of healthcare industry preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
