Job Summary

Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Demonstrates critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Sanford Medical Center Fargo (SMCF) takes care to the next level – combining expertise and compassionate patient care. The new, 284-bed, provides services including emergency/trauma, Family Birth Center, Children’s Hospital, brain and spine surgery, heart surgery, interventional cardiology and general surgery. SMCF Laboratory has an exciting job opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to work in an integrated healthcare system using state of the art technology.

· Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing.

· On-site training.

This is a full-time position working 36 hours a week on the evening shift. Weekend and holiday rotation is part of the schedule.

Qualifications

MLT: Associates degree in Laboratory Science required. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

MLS: Bachelor’s degree in laboratory or biological sciences required. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
