JOB SUMMARY

Examines heartbeat patterns on electrocardiograph (EKG) monitors to detect any abnormal heart rhythms. Assists physicians in emergency responses to heart irregularities. Observes an electrocardiograph (EKG) monitor and examines heartbeat patterns to identify any abnormal variations in heart rhythms. Recognizes emergency situations and informs physicians so immediate medical action can be taken. Records the heart's electrical activities using an EKG monitor and checks the quality of recorded material. Prints an EKG report, detailing a patient's cardiovascular condition, for physician interpretation and diagnosis.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts a wide range of invasive recordings of Cardiac Cath Lab procedures, under direct supervision, for diagnostic and interventional purposes. Directly monitors patient heart functions while conducting various cardiac and vascular tests to monitor patients' heart and blood vessel conditions using diverse cardiology equipment. Obtaining and recording patient information and medical histories; providing care and counseling to ensuring their comfort and safety during cardiac tests and treatments. Maintaining a wide range of cardiology equipment and cardiac monitoring tools; reporting any malfunctions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have completed a Medical Assistant program, have completed an Exercise Science program or have equivalent work experience in cardiac testing. Must have knowledge of basic cardiac anatomy and physiology. Must have a working knowledge of basic and intermediate life threatening cardiac rhythms, special equipment used in cardiac testing, computers, and medical terminology. Must have knowledge of cardiovascular drugs and how they can affect the hemodynamics, the EKG, and the diagnostic/interventional procedure being performed. Basic Life Support certification required.
