Possesses the knowledge and ability to dispense prescription drugs to patients. Helps patients understand doctor's instructions and monitors patients' health and progress. Manages daily prescriptions. Advises doctors on the selection, dosages, interactions and side effects of medication. Provides information about drug side effects and interactions among different drugs. Dispenses drugs and makes sure people are taking the right medications. Monitors the health and progress of patients in response to drug therapy. Reviews drug utilization and answers questions about prescription drugs. Provides information and makes recommendations about drugs. Takes inventory and handles other basic pharmacy events, such as answering incoming physician calls and logging data.
Demonstrates experience with compounding, dispensing, and labeling of drugs. Follows pharmaceutical guidelines, regulations and standards; adheres to safety procedures. Participates in basic prescription-verification practices. Collaborates with other health care professionals to identify therapeutic treatments and advises providers on safe and effective use of drugs for clinical/therapeutic procedures, including benefits and side effects of alternative treatments. Communicates with patients and providers about therapeutic responses, side effects and associated time frames to optimize drug therapy and improve therapeutic outcomes. Identifies medicinal side effects, drug-drug interactions and food-drug interactions. Follows organizational guidelines and procedures by participating in the collection, processing, documentation, and reporting of adverse events.
This individual will be primarily responsible for front-line facilitation of appropriate workflows around oral oncology ordering and releasing (Beacon) in Roger Maris Cancer Center, subsequently managing the documentation piece of multistep order transmittal for prescription capture. These duties will include direct contact with prescribers, patients, 3rd party payors, and outside pharmacies to grow oral oncology medication services at Sanford. The successful candidate will also work directly with clinic staff and prescriber teams through live meetings and other written / verbal communication to provide and receive ongoing feedback related to Beacon and MSOT workflow, growth of prescription capture, and medication dispensing services. The individual in this position will also be involved with day-to-day therapy management workflow (via specialty pharmacy module in EMR), including appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record, with involvement in benefits investigation and prior authorization. This pharmacist will also work closely with IT to facilitate changes to the workflow and applicable medications, including the submission of service tickets. Collaboration with enterprise formulary committee and leaders will be important to evaluate and respond to data that is generated, establishing goals and future direction for growth of oral oncology medication dispensing and therapy management.
License must be in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position. In a retail/community pharmacy setting: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Must have a thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions; knowledge of state and local regulations.In a medical center or institutional setting: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Must have a thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions; knowledge of state and local regulations. Hospital experience or residency preferred.
