JOB SUMMARY

Organizes and assists in planning and coordinates a systematic, organization-wide approach to improving patient care, patient safety and health outcomes.

Provides oversight to performance improvement components/activities. Coordinates the performance improvement activities of departments and teams. Serves as communication link and resource person with regard to performance improvement and patient safety for departments and management throughout the organization. Assists in providing information about and from ongoing monitoring systems to designated persons/committees for use in the quality management activities for which they are responsible. Functions as a resource for employees and clients. Must possess the ability to make independent and timely decisions when circumstances warrant. Role may require chart abstraction at times based on need.

Tactful interpersonal skills, particularly in relating to physicians, other health care professionals and top-level management. Must possess the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with other health care professionals, physicians, regulatory agency staff and the public. Ability to work effectively with both people and data. Data management, retrieval, and review skills in order to determine learning opportunities as well as improvement needs to provide feedback to designated audience. Responsible for training and development processes, tools and techniques; ability to design and implement competency-based training and development based on all statistical data that is received, analyzed, and implemented for all performance improvement activities. Knowledge of statistics and statistical data displays. Familiarity with dealing with identified problems. Objectivity in dealing with identified problems. Knowledge of quality management requirements and knowledge of the formal and informal hospital organization structure. Demonstrates knowledge in federal, state and local healthcare related laws and regulations; ability to comply with these in healthcare practices and activities.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Processes large quantities of detailed information with high levels of accuracy. Presents a professional image, especially when dealing with customers. Participates in compliance audits for healthcare services and operations, such as privacy and patient rights. Initiates partnerships that could increase the organization's capabilities. Develops and monitors programs that integrate learning with practice opportunities. Demonstrates expertise in quality assurance tools, techniques, and standards. Delivers written and oral communication, responds to questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes. Coaches one or several individuals or teams on a specific competency or subject area. Assists in assessing risks, benefits and consideration of alternatives. Adjusts work to accommodate the needs of group processes. Adheres to compliance requirements in a specific area of healthcare practices. Uses relevant tools and holds patient information in a confidential manner.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

Prefer Health Information Management experience and RHIA certification. This position is located in Clear Lake.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in one of the following: business, accounting, statistics, or healthcare related field. Will accept seven years equivalent professional experience.

Thorough knowledge of healthcare and patient care delivery principles and processes in an inpatient or ambulatory care setting. Quality improvement experience desirable. Additionally would ask for statistical knowledge, project planning and data analysis experience preferred.
