Creates and implements resident activities and events. Manages activity staff schedules and coordinates volunteer staffing and activities.
Creates and views resident care plans around activities. Completes activity assessments and Minimum Data Set (MDS) questions as required. Reports problems, concerns and information to leadership in an appropriate and timely manner. Communicates department activities and information to employees. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strives to improve the quality of life for the residents by providing appropriate, meaningful activities and interventions on a one-on-one and/or group basis. Administers the monthly activity calendar. Regularly elicits residents input into activity planning and keeps activities well organized and upbeat, following all state required activities such as music, craft and spiritual activities. Partakes in activities such as fishing, nature walks, pet therapy, music therapy and others in order to support residents and ensure they are functioning at an optimal level while also maintaining dignity and identity. Assists with simple nursing procedures and transporting residents to and from rooms.
Demonstrates leadership abilities such as developing and motivating people. Possesses the ability to work with strong willed residents and/or behavioral issues. Maintains strong critical thinking skills and problem solving skills. Prioritizes responsibilities while working autonomously. Plans and oversees the utilization of resources and designs of work processes.
Coordinates work schedules and workloads for personnel. Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes. Works with or leads others to re-prioritize work and reschedule commitments as necessary. Sets scheduling guidelines, dependent on different working environments. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for residents, families, staff and visitors and works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for residents. Recommends qualified candidates in support of staffing objectives. Prepare activity reports to inform management of the status and implementation plans of programs, services, and quality initiatives. Offers effective feedback to patient and family members regarding health. Identifies types of environments that motivate or de-motivate initiative. Documents plans with clear objectives, action steps, accountabilities, resource requirements and timelines. Develops departmental operations best practices to ensure an effective and smooth workflow. Delivers written and oral communication, responds to questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Defines requirements for handling patient and family member inquiries.
Associate degree preferred.
Two years experience in this field preferred. Knowledge of working with a wide variety of resident demographics. Experience in social services or creative activities. Minimum of one year previous leadership/management experience preferred.
Current Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) certification or currently enrolled as a student in a healthcare related program preferred. This role classifies as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver's license. Also must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of this position as per our Sanford Driving Policy. Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
