Provides leadership for all planning and construction activities by utilizing proactive management, technical knowledge, continuous improvement and a focus on customer service. Responsible for oversight of department and all projects, guiding master and conceptual planning, standards development and advising leadership on capital projects and strategic facility planning. Manages staff such, including leaders, Health Systems Engineers, CAD specialists, and project managers. Develops and implements departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as it relates to construction and planning projects. Provides overall direction to staff so they can be successful in implementing and leading projects. Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of construction principles and techniques, and a thorough understanding of architectural and engineering standards and documents. Must also have a thorough knowledge base of applicable codes such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI), along with being aware of requirements from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Joint Commission as it relates to life safety and the environment of care. Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate. Exhibits high-level creativity, problem solving and long-range vision. Is expected to give recommendations to leadership to guide the decision making process for strategic master planning, capital planning and design concepts. Works on complex planning and construction matters where analysis of issues, data and process require advanced specialist knowledge and in-depth industry and technical knowledge. An approach of continuous improvement is implemented in all of these processes. Oversees project development so scopes of work, schedules and estimates can be generated at the conceptual level. Once approved, ensure all planning and construction projects are on-time and on-budget by proactively supporting, guiding and monitoring project management staff so they can be successful. For the purposes of keeping leadership and key stakeholders up to date, provides project overviews and dashboards for all active projects to include updates on progress, schedule, contracts, capital and expense accounts. Develops then implements design, construction, reporting and process standards and templates as identified that bring added value. Process improvements projects are initiated to ensure the physical environment, and its design, always fosters safe and efficient patient care. Manages the development of facility master plans which lead to the development of conceptual plans, schedules and phasing and estimates. Fosters relationships with outside design, contracting and consulting firms and lead the process for negotiating contracts for professional design services and construction contracts. Enterprise duties may include developing standards, consulting with other regions and developing strategies for planning and construction.
Teaches others the subtleties of negotiating strategic or high-impact agreements. Establishes guidelines, standards and procedures for construction contract management. Documents plans with clear objectives, action steps, accountabilities, resource requirements and timelines. Develops construction management procedures and policies for diverse projects. Creates and implements a strategy for supporting current and future business needs. Consults others on the maintenance and upkeep for multiple facilities. Consults on the full spectrum of expense management processes. Champions the use of updated construction management methodology and technology within the organization. Champions behaviors that inspire cohesiveness and move the organization to reach a vision.

Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field required.
Seven years of project management experience required. Experience in healthcare project management, planning or leadership preferred. Must have had previous experience managing an interdisciplinary team through complex processes and projects.
