Job Summary

Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Demonstrates critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Department Details

The Sanford Laboratories-Bismarck is centrally located between the medical center and the clinic tower and provides reference laboratory services for multiple Sanford clinics and clients. Opportunity exists to expand knowledge in multiple areas of laboratory testing as well as experience healthcare on different shifts while working with many talented laboratorians and other members of the healthcare team. At Sanford Laboratories-Bismarck, we are concerned with providing high-quality and reliable results to our patient and provider customers and work very hard to maintain and /or improve service. This is a 2-shift float (day/evening) generalist position that includes working in a variety of departments in the main campus lab, as well as training and rotating at the Bismarck/Mandan Clinic labs. Phlebotomy is a requirement of the position. Approximately every third weekend required.

Qualifications

MLT: Associates degree in Laboratory Science required. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

MLS: Bachelor’s degree in laboratory or biological sciences required. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
