Responds to an emergency call, assesses the situation, diagnoses and treats patients for emergency needs; reports patient information to medical staff in a timely and accurate manner. Obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and assesses the situation's urgency and seriousness. Provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Communicates with the medical care facility about the patient's condition, status and time of arrival.
Work hours will vary dependent on patient needs. This may include overtime, call, night, days, weekends, holidays and floating.
Current valid Minnesota EMT Certification. Current BLS. Holds current valid driverΓÇÖs license. High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited EMS program. Continuing education: CEHΓÇÖs as mandated by accreditation. General hospital and departmental orientation and training. Mandatory in-services, staff meetings and workshops per hospital policy. Training in ICS 100,200 and 700; decontamination. Encouraged to be certified in a specialty area and participate in professional memberships.
