JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for telephone health care. This includes telephone triage; health information and education; and physician and service referral and other specialty access lines using established protocols, approved references, and access to specific medical resources. Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in decision-making for a diverse client population with a wide range of problem acuity. Perform effectively in answering caller inquiries and crisis intervention following established protocols with appropriate communication and documentation. Perform ongoing, systematic assessment and data collection, focusing on physiological, psychological and cognitive status with educational and resource referral. Instruct patients in an articulate and professional manner based on expressed needs and available resources. Demonstrate awareness of legal issues in all aspects of telephone triage and document the health information service. Work with adults in phone conversations involving all ages of patients.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with growth and development needs of pediatric to geriatric client populations. Should possess superior nursing process skills and excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Should have an understanding of the departments within the hospital, clinics and health system and those businesses with which we interact such as Rural Metro Medical Services, and others, as needed. Possess basic typing skills and basic personal computer skills to be comfortable with a Windows-based operating system. This position requires a strong commitment to providing outstanding service with a clear customer focus. Strong skills in basic counseling, relationship building, communications, negotiation, and problem solving are necessary. Critical thinking skills, creativity, flexibility and innovation in adapting services to customer needs are requirements. Should cultivate a pleasant telephone voice and have a positive, helpful, enthusiastic personality. This person should be organized and able to set priorities, working effectively with minimal supervision. Must be able to work well in an area of limited space. This position requires a strong team spirit.

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently licensed with the applicable State Nursing Board and/or possess multistate licensure privileges as required by position. Within 6-months of hire into position, must obtain licensure in Minnesota and Oklahoma. Obtains and subsequently maintains Graduation from a NLN or AACN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable. Bachelor's degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
