JOB SUMMARY

Contribute to Sanford operations and processes while obtaining first hand experience that align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Must have good human relations and communications skills; must be able to follow procedures and instructions given by the leadership staff. Must have strong problem solving, leadership, and analytical skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Products.

The fall internship session is intended to provide juniors and seniors in college an opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job experience while attending to their coursework. Individuals applying for a fall internship must be from within a 100-mile radius of the internship location. Individuals accepted into a fall internship must commit to working 20-32 hours per week on-site until the maximum of 384 hours is met or another end date is agreed upon. Fall internship session start date is September 5, 2017.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Surgical Services administrative intern will engage in a mix of observational experiences and project-based work, and receive guidance and mentorship from experienced healthcare executives. He or she will observe the department and develop process flow maps or current processes and make recommendations for improvement. This may include creating and developing a Standard Operating Procedure for Surgical Services Administration, analyzing data to inform department strategy, participating in management meetings, and supporting administration.

Internship Responsibilities:

• Key Project: Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Recommendations for Improvement

o Research best practices for SOPs

o Assist management with defining goals

o Develop and prepare SOP documents and Operational Dashboard

o Identify processes to be mapped and value streamed

• Additional Projects

o 1:1 mentoring sessions with Surgical Services Administration

o Assist with daily service delivery and tasks

o Assist with report preparation

o Develop tool for quality assurance

• Ability to observe surgical cases

• Ability to strengthen your professional network and seek peer relationships

Intern Qualifications:

• Self-Motivated and Reliable

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• Experience in project planning is preferred

• Must be a junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Finance, Human Resources majors or an immediate graduate having received one of the previously listed majors.

• Must be able to commit to the hours scheduled during the 12-week internship.

• Strong communication skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
