JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation & evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to designated area. The RN collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. Documents patient history, symptoms, medications and care provided in compliance with applicable standards/regulations. The RN is expected to utilize technology to enhance quality patient care, to collaborate with physicians and inter-professional team members, effectively delegate to and supervise unlicensed personnel, assume overall nursing accountability for a patient assignment and serve in leadership roles on department/organizational tasks forces and committees. The RN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in the specific care area or unit. Must have effective communication skills to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts, situations, and/or issues with peers, inter-professional colleagues, patients and families. Must have strong clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills to analyze data and appropriately respond to changing situations. The RN functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice (2015) and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2015) as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The nursing department is open 24 hours/day; any of those hours may be an expectation of employment specific to the needs of the department. These needs change dependent upon staffing availability and patient census. Will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Committee meeting attendance may be expected at times.

QUALIFICATIONS

Iowa RN License; All facility nursing staff to be certified in CPR, and Mandatory Abuse Training Adult and pediatric with the exception of Sanford Senior Care they need to be certified in only Adult. Hospital Nursing also to be certified in ACLS, PALS, NALS, TNCC and Mandatory Abuse-Adult and child. Re-certification is mandatory for all nurses as per the regulatory guidelines. Affiliation with an outside professional nursing organization is encouraged but is not required. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate Degree, Diploma, or Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Thirty-six contact hours every two years as required by the Iowa Board of Nursing. Participation in continuing education programs as offered by Sanford Sheldon.
