JOB SUMMARY

Assists operating surgeons in carrying out technical surgical procedures in accordance with applicable safety laws and regulations. Assists operating surgeons with intra-operative procedures like homeostasis, exposure, closure, etc. Develops specialized preoperative plans in coordination with appropriate surgeons and health team members. Prepares surgical tools and equipment and takes preventative measures to ensure applicable health and safety regulations are satisfied. Administers preoperative medications and reports the responses of patients to assigned surgeons and anesthesiologists.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

will work in clinic and in the OR. work in the OR will be with one of the hand surgeons and will be in clinic on his clinic days assisting with procedures, rooming patients, wound care, casting and splinting of injuries

QUALIFICATIONS

If working in North Dakota, must be on the North Dakota Board of Nursing Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) Registry at the time employment begins. National certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred if working in North Dakota or Minnesota. Surgical Assistants must participate in the credentialing process required by the Hospital which includes approval by the Executive Committee upon recommendation of the Credentials Committee to practice in the surgical arena. Completion of a formal credentialing/training process approved by a team of surgeons is also required. Graduate of an approved surgical technologist program preferred. Experience in an operating room setting is required. Must have a good knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical and surgical terminology, instrumentation, aseptic techniques, and surgical procedures acquired through post-secondary training.
