Performs utilization management activities in accordance with Utilization Management Plan to assure compliance with accreditation/regulatory requirements. Completes/coordinates activities relating to the implementation, ongoing evaluation and improvements to utilization management processes. Completes activities relating to determination of medical necessity, authorization, continued stay review and outlier review including diagnosis and procedural coding for working diagnosis related group (DRG) assignment. Collaborates with members of the healthcare team to promote medically necessary resource utilization and achievement of fiscal outcomes. Assists in report preparation, correspondence and maintenance of appropriate records. Educates members of the healthcare team regarding trends, external regulations and internal policies that effect resource utilization. May work with adult through geriatric age groups.Organizational and communication skills. Dynamic and tactful interpersonal skills, particularly in relating to physicians and other health care professionals. Critical thinking and problem solving skills. Ability to organize complex systems of data. Ability to work effectively with both people and data including detailed information. Data management, retrieval and analysis skills. Position focuses on Medical Surgical Utilization Management. Medical Surgical nursing experience preferred. Position is full-time 80 hours every two weeks working Monday through Friday typically 8:00am to 4:30pm. Does require a weekend rotation of every 4th or 5th weekend.


Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position. Nurses performing nursing practice over the telephone require licensure in the states where the patients being served reside. Must have graduated from an accredited school or college of nursing. Must have at least two years experience in nursing practice. Must have knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques. Must have understanding of utilization management principles.
