Sanford Health Internship Program aims to provide our interns with challenging, real-world projects specific to their career path. The Radiology Physics Intern will contribute to Sanford operations and processes while obtaining first-hand experience that align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The fall internship session is intended to provide juniors and seniors in college an opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job experience while attending to their coursework. Individuals applying for a fall internship must be from within a 100-mile radius of the internship location. Individuals accepted into a fall internship must commit to working 20-32 hours per week on-site until the maximum of 384 hours is met or another end date is agreed upon. Fall internship session start date is October 9, 2017.
Interns will be given opportunities to gain experience in the field of medical physics through a clinical research project and/or assisting in clinical service of diagnostic imaging equipment. By applying his/her knowledge of physics, the successful intern will learn the fundamental principles of a medical imaging modality (e.g., computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging) and will be given the opportunity to implement/optimize protocols for clinical diagnostic imaging, perform physics evaluations of imaging equipment, and/or develop safety education programs for health care professionals. Project 1- Develop computational tools for analyzing longitudinal, diagnostic imaging equipment, performance criteria, Project 2 – Develop image processing tools for automated analysis of images acquired for physics.
Must be a Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in physics, engineering, or other science, which requires mathematics at least through differential equations, modern physics/quantum mechanics, electricity and magnetism or equivalent engineering sciences courses or an immediate graduate having received one of the previously listed majors. Must have good human relations and communications skills; must be able to follow procedures and instructions given by the leadership staff. Must have strong problem solving, leadership, and analytical skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Products.
