Responsible for scheduling and performing ultrasound procedures in a professional and diagnostic manner. Interact effectively with fellow radiology personnel. Observes, evaluates and participates in the educational processes of the radiologic technology student. The sonographer must adhere to safety and infection control policies established by Sanford. Assess the patient’s condition and perform diagnostic studies. On a continuum, the sonographer will work to develop an understanding of the patient’s physical and emotional status. The sonographer must thoroughly understand the operation of the ultrasound machine and utilize new technologies. Sensitivity and patient confidentiality will be practiced at all times. Has the knowledge and ability to observe/evaluate and participate in the educational processes of the radiologic technology student. Will work with all age groups of patients.
Other credential/licensure required and/or preferred
Must be registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) with an RDMS credential in Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB) specialties. If not registered at time of hire, must obtain registry within 2 years. Employees who provide outreach mobile services must maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record. If working in ND and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, must be licensed through the ND MIRT Board of Examiners.
Other education required and/or preferred
Education, Experience, & Skills (Minimum Requirement): Must meet at least one of the following criteria: Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, clinical experience demonstrating competency requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate for work area or equivalent work experience. Prior experience as a sonographer is preferred. Expected to have knowledge of scanning procedures as appropriate for work area.
