JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant functions within the administration pre-defined scope of practice guidelines. Ambulatory care is a unique healthcare setting that is characterized by efficient, focused care of patients. The Medical Assistant in the ambulatory care setting collects subjective and objective health status data from the patient or caregiver and communicates this data to the health care provider. The Medical Assistant participates in the care of patients by providing contributing data to licensed health care professionals. The Medical Assistant communicates the providerΓÇÖs instructions for care to the patient, or caregiver, by transmission of specifically defined information. Will participate in care for patients, across the lifespan, in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings. Performs a variety of duties under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine. A sampling of the specialized clinical duties performed includes, but is not limited to, obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting patient's signs or symptoms, and performing point of care testing.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Monday through Friday 9:00am-5:30pm. Full Time 80 hours every two weeks.

QUALIFICATIONS

If employed in North Dakota, Medication III's can only work in an ambulatory care settings, must be registered as an Unlicensed Assistive Person and have a Medication Assistant III registration from the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Whether working in North Dakota or Minnesota, must hold and maintain current certification through either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical technologists (AMT), or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Must be a graduate of a North Dakota Board of Nursing recognized medical assistant program or have successfully completed two semesters of a North Dakota Board of Nursing approved nursing education program, each of which must have included a clinical nursing component. The two semesters combined must have included basic clinical skills, basic pharmacology, principles of medication administration and math competency. Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
