Professionally handles customer requests ensuring the issues are resolved both promptly and thoroughly. Responsible for answering incoming phone calls and face to face interactions with both internal and external customers to Sanford. Must be able to accurately and efficiently access and gather information and fulfill customer needs. Expected to educate the customer where applicable either to help with or prevent the need for future contacts. Performs certain functions of release of information in order to meet and satisfy customer demands. Fulfills and delivers records in requested media following established turnaround times. Maintains integrity and confidentiality standards of the medical record. Adheres to confidentiality of patient information. May be required to relay updates regarding medical record completion of suspended physicians immediately when applicable. May scan required documents into the patient medical record. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing. Works in a stressful environment with high customer demands. Excellent oral communication skills and ability to meet the public in a professional manner. Accuracy in number and name recognition. Must be able to interact with people, and work with frequent interruptions. Ability to multitask and handle priority situations. Work is extremely detailed and requires a high level of accuracy.Individual will work extensively with protected health information and is required to adhere to HIPAA privacy and security regulations and policies related to same.
Associate degree in Health Information Technology or other healthcare field preferred. Prior work experience in HIM Department related to record maintenance completion or release of information preferred.Applies professional medico-legal training in all aspects of work. Familiar with laws and regulations governing release of information, and the content of the medical record. Knowledge of completion of medical record, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, and medical terminology. Work is extremely detailed and requires a high accuracy rate to meet legal requirements. Must work confidently as an individual or part of a team. Must uphold high ethical standards and always be cognizant of the patient's right to privacy. Ability to type a minimum of 35 words per minute. Must have excellent organization skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact with a variety of customers demonstrating poise, tact and professionalism at all times. Familiar with HIPAA privacy and security regulations. Individual will work extensively with protected health information and is required to adhere to HIPAA privacy and security regulations and policies related to same.
