JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for performing ultrasounds in a professional and diagnostic manner. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images The sonographer must thoroughly understand the operation of the ultrasound machine and utilize new technologies. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with patients and all organizational staff. Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the sonography field. Has the knowledge and ability to observe/evaluate and participate in the educational processes of Sonography and Radiologic Technology students when appropriate. Assists when necessary with the maintenance of accreditation requirements and processes. The sonographer must adhere to safety and infection control policies established by Sanford. Must understand age-related protocols for various testing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. If not registered, must obtain registry within 2 years of hire. Employees working in mobile unit must have valid drivers license and a good driving record. If working in ND and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, must be licensed through the ND MIRT Board of Examiners. Employees who provide outreach mobile services must maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record. Must meet at least one of the following criteria: Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, clinical experience demonstrating competency requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate for work area or equivalent work experience. Prior experience as a sonographer is preferred. Expected to have knowledge of scanning procedures as appropriate for work area.
