JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for performing procedures or testing for all patient populations. Expected to understand the testing equipment in detail, including its structure, function, indications for use, physiological effect upon the patient, and basic maintenance procedures. Must understand and be able to apply principles of anatomy and physiology, normal and abnormal, related to procedures performed, and must have a working knowledge of the disease and pathological conditions encountered. Prepares patients for and performs interoperative monitoring for patients with neurological conditions.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Neurologic Testing includes: EEG, Video EEG and Ambulatory EEG; and/or Evoked Potential testing including Somatosensory EP, visual EP, Auditory EP and/or Operative EP/EMG monitoring. Neurological technologists work five (8 hours) or four (10 hours) weekday shifts per week plus being on call approximately one week per month. Neurological tests are performed on patients of all ages and done in all patient care areas and an outpatient lab. Cross training to a second department modality will be a potential for all new employees. Neurological technologists must be competent in EEG waveform identification and 10-20 international mark and measure within 6 mo. of hire.

QUALIFICATIONS

All Neurological technologists are required to obtain ABRET EEG credentialed within 3 years of hire. Prefer graduates of an approved program of Electroneurodiagnostic Technology (ENDT) or students currently enrolled in an approved ENDT program who have at least 6 months clinical experience and are scheduled to graduate prior to start date. Enrollment in an approved ENDT program within 1 year of hire is required if new hire has no ENDT degree.
