JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant functions within the administration pre-defined scope of practice guidelines. Ambulatory care is a unique healthcare setting that is characterized by efficient, focused care of patients. The Medical Assistant in the ambulatory care setting collects subjective and objective health status data from the patient or caregiver and communicates this data to the health care provider. The Medical Assistant participates in the care of patients by providing contributing data to licensed health care professionals; and following through on the patient’s plan of care under the direction of the provider. The Medical Assistant communicates the provider’s instructions for care to the patient, or caregiver, by transmission of specifically defined information. Will participate in care for patients, across the lifespan, in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings. Performs a variety of duties under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine. A sampling of the specialized clinical duties performed includes, but is not limited to, obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting patient's signs or symptoms, and performing point of care testing.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The medical assistant, under the direction of the licensed nurse, provides direct and indirect patient care in the clinic setting. They provides care that meets the physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family by taking accurate and complete phone messages. Communicates with physicians and team members about changes in patients clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptamotology. Listens, motivates, and participates in team efforts. Maintains appropriate verbal and non-verbal behavior in the work area being aware of patient, family, staff, and other customers perception of your behavior. Adheres to dress code policy. Responds to customer requests, concerns and complaints in a timely manner; offering explanation of services in a clear, concise, and friendly manner. Maintains patient, customer, and employee confidentiality. Prepares and maintains patient exam rooms. Completes all charting and documentation according to the standard office visit policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

Maintains a current unencumbered state licensure as a MA. CPR certification required within six weeks of employment, recertification as required None specified.
